"Little Ray Junior Stops Barron Von Boredom"
By: Royalty, Robots, or Role Models

Dusk was setting in at Little Ray Junior’s dinner table. A mostly empty plate lay before him. The only thing that stared back up at him from it was asparagus. The dreaded asparagus. Grandma got up from the table to clear her plate. She shook her head and entered the kitchen. Dad looked at Little Ray and said, “your grandma made this special for you, buddy.” Little Ray made a face he normally only used when he smelled really bad farts. He pushed the plate back, shaking his head. “Just two bites. Do it for grandma,” dad sighed. Dad raised a forkful of the sickly green strings to Ray’s mouth. Grandma’s head peaked in from the kitchen, hope in her face as the fork inched closer. Slowly Ray opened his mouth and let the fork in. Dad pulled the clean fork out, free of the fateful asparagus. Little Ray forced himself to chew the disgusting vegetable poles and swallow. That’s when Little Ray’s head started to feel funny; like his brain was being touched with a feather. He closed his eyes and put his elbows on the table to hold his head. “What did I tell you about elbows on the table, young man?” Grandma asked. Little Ray sat straight up, bug-eyed. “What’s wrong, buddy?” Dad asked with concern in his voice. “I saw with sound, dad!” Little Ray exclaimed as grandma looked puzzled at the boy and his dad looked at him carefully. With all eyes on him, Ray Junior continued. “Like how bat see! I close my eyes and see everything with the sound!” Little Ray closed his eyes again, looking around the kitchen. “That’s amazing!” Dad said, shock in his face. But then hunger set in. Little Ray’s stomach growled so loud it surprised grandma and made her say, “oh my!” Little Ray looked at his plate and finished all of the magic asparagus before putting his napkin in his mouth and starting to chew it. “Ray, what are you doing?” Dad asked in surprise. “Mmff-mmff, mm-mm mmh hmm!” Little Ray said, his mouth still full of napkin. Dad looked sideways at him because he’s told Ray not to talk with his mouth full before. So Little Ray swallowed and spoke again. “I’m really super hungry, dad!” Suddenly the phone rang. Dad got up as Little Ray started eating part of his chair. “Well, that’s an interesting turn of events,” dad said, “it seems that Little Ray has super powers. I’ll let him know.” Little Ray faced his dad. A piece of the wood chair fell from his mouth before he swallowed what was left in it. “Well, buddy,” dad said, “it looks like your friend Wilber heard zombies are walking around school.” Little Ray stood up slowly. “This looks like a job for…” Ray started.
